This is a real conversation from today

Disclaimer: this funny depends on a slightly off-color word if you're offended by that sort of thing. Names have been obscured to protect the guilty. I wasn't listening to the whole conversation as I was in another office, but BF is talking to P & L about some video game. At one point he used the word "douchebag" ... this is the hilarity that ensued: P & L: (after a moment of silence and shock) .... what? B: um ... L: B that's not the type of word you should use in front of your employer. B: Oh ..... sorry Me: I bet he has no idea what it means B: (silence) P: We're not really offended but you should choose your words more carefully, someone might be. B: I guess I better go look up the exact definition ... At which point myself, P and L are ROFLing (later P came in my office and said I was a douchebag as well, LOL)

Baby Nathan is here

Fair minded Ministry

I was given the opportunity to lead my Sunday-school class yesterday and while I don't generally like the material we use, I came across a tidbit of something that I found very interesting. (and provoked some very interesting discussion in class as well!) The idea comes from 2 Corinthians 4:2 2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. (NKJV) The author of the SS book stated that the first part of the verse is an argument against using gimmicks or tricks in ministry. He compared it to the programs that we use in churches today and stated that the message of is so powerful that it doesn't need these things to stand on its own. Now I'm certain that there are things that fall under the categories outlined by Paul. Building a shopping mall in your church, watering down your message so people aren'...

Wake me up when atheists start blowing stuff up

Radical Islam, radical atheism threaten America, Colson tells pastors The above is a real headline. If you have a weak stomach don't read the article, it will make anyone trying to follow CHRIST, sick. I have so many things going through my mind right now but none strong enough to express my *outrage* at these complete morons who claim to be doing God's work. I guess its easier to call people terrorists than to help feed the poor, love sinners and generally follow a Christ-like example.

Does God work only in "Mysterious Ways"?

My friend Adam and I were discussing the woman mentioned in my last post and of some of our other friends and their beliefs about God. We realized that (maybe not consciously) the woman believes that God ONLY works in mysterious ways. I think that a lot of other people I know believe that as well. Let me explain what I mean: Someone who believes that God can only work in mysterious ways does not believe that everyday happenings are of God. Furthermore I've met people who believe that if something wonderful is done that is not attributed to God is therefore not of God. My baby is a perfect example. The woman at church believes the doctors, medical staff and technology produced images of him inside the womb. Those things are normal, we know how they work and they are fallible, therefore: not of God. Taking it a step further, it seems some of these people believe that God would actually change the sex of the child in order to prove the doctor and the technology wrong. A lot of this ...

The Horrors of Becoming a Parent (so I hear)

***Warning: Rant Ahead *** I admit, I get frustrated and annoyed easily, so for my blog I've really tried hard not to express my whiny personal opinions as truth like every other blog out there ... this is the anti-blog after-all! But at some point even the anti-blogger has a breaking point ... so here it is. To the people of earth in general: Please for the love of Pete, STOP TELLING ME YOUR PARENTING HORROR STORIES. Specifically the things I've recently heard: First its, "The doctors are often wrong about the baby's gender", or "My brother's former roommate's cousin's daughter in-law had a baby they thought was a boy and it turned out to be a girl and they were so mad and they had to return all the blue stuff" ... blah blah blah. One woman actually (in a very rude manner) told us how we were "so naive" and that God could change his mind if he wanted to. Well you know what lady? You can look at the photos and see his little baby...

We know what you stand for now DO something about it!

Lots in the news about abortion again lately and it was not my intent to comment again. If you've not read the Anti-Blog before you should probably check out my earlier post about my own views of abortion. National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day is apparently right around the corner. I knew nothing about this until I heard it on the radio this past week. Certainly people wishing to do this have every right to express their views. I also harbor no ill-will against any person who considers themselves to be pro-life. I understand the point of view and for the most part I agree with it, again for my views read my previous post :). That said I think there is a real problem with this kind of action. Specifically it rails on what you are against and offers no solution to the underlying problems. So I'll offer some: free birth control to prevent the problem in the first place. Education and mentors for people in poor families (costs money) where most of these problems occur. To help prevent t...

Ann Coulter really a brilliant Satirist?

An article posted at Live Science.com this morning poses the idea that Ann Coulter is really a satirist making fun of the Intelligent Design crowd and the right in general. While I'm certain that Ann doesn't really believe everything she says, and generally talks trash to ruffle some feathers (and I can respect that) ... I'm still not certain that she's a satirist. If she is, then it doesn't appear to be working very well. Though I suppose that even Swift had people who agreed with his baby-eating policies. At any rate, the article is an interesting read, especially for the last few paragraphs that talk about faith and science. Props to the author for such a well reasoned viewpoint.

Now this is funny

I usually don't like parodies but this is pretty good. I found this from massivetruth's blog cup a joe: Christian vs. Christ Follower

Its official, we're having a gummy-bear

Change can be scary, even when you expect it

In a departure from my normal ranting and raving: I'd like to annouce that my wife and I are expecting our first child. Early in October we'll have a crying, pooping dribbling thing to take care of :). Okay so babies are cute though. I've never been a real fan of kids but I'm already starting to realize that ones own children are somehow less disgusting and annoying than the normal ones. I'm actually very happy about it :). Of course I'm a little nervous too. How does one take care of another human without the little guy or girl (we don't know yet) needing years of therapy after they are grown and out of the house? I suppose I get to learn! A small rant since it wouldn't be the Anti-Blog without it. We are NOT naming our kid some kind of trendy yuppy soccer mom name. This would include any name with a long "i" sound and then spelled some ridiculous way. Skylar? Jordyn? Kytlyn? Can I buy a vowel? (yes we knew parents who named their children ...

Southern Baptists. Largest Protestant group in the US, masters of putting their collective feet in their collective mouths. We've done a lot of good in the world but more recently were best know for those "HOLY CRAP WHAT ARE THOSE PEOPLE THINKING????" moments. This one has actually been brewing awhile and the mainstream media has only recently taken notice. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has decided to deny a woman tenure and refuse to renew her contract because ... she's a woman . Just some background for my readers who aren't privy to politics in a church group. Basically its the same as politics in secular circles but with less money and more, dare I say it, dick waving. Specifically the seminaries (there's more than one, Southwestern I believe is the largest) are controlled by the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). SBC has always stated they don't believe in allowing woman pastors. I disagree but I respect their opinion. Its not like they ...

Rumors of the Anti-Blog's Death are greatly exaggerated

Well even though my friend Kevin the krod told me I sucked at blogging (which I do, which is why it's the ANTI-blog). I'm going to keep going with this :) Things have been very hectic the last couple of months. I've been working on hard trying to build up clients for my new business and Adam and I released our game which is still big work in progress and takes up lots of time. Plus some other projects I have in the works that I'll be releasing soon. I have some more "Wedge Issues" up my sleeve as well as some discussion of recent events in Baptist circles. Beware, the Anti-Blog is back!
